Malawi is a landlocked, densely populated country with per capita income at around US$280. Poverty reduction and food security remain top priorities despite Malawi’s recent strong economic performance. The World Bank has contributed to this outcome by helping empower the rural poor to engage in economic activities and improve agricultural productivity for both household food security and income generation.
