SAO TOME AND PRINCIPE

São Tomé and Príncipe is an archipelago of just over 1,000 square kilometers in the Gulf of Guinea and one of the smallest economies in Africa. While economic performance improved and the real GDP growth increased to an average 5 percent over the period 2001 to 2007, approximately 54 percent of its population is poor and 15 percent live in extreme poverty. The World Bank will continue to support the preparation of a new Poverty Reduction Strategy, raise public sector governance to maximize the benefits of future oil revenues; and strengthen public sector service delivery in the energy, water and communication sectors.

Active financed activities as of March 28, 2012.
