SENEGAL

Senegal is located on the West Coast of Africa and is part of the West African Economic and Monetary Union. With a population estimated at about 12.5 million, Senegal’s economy is dominated by a few strategic sectors, including groundnuts, fisheries and services. The World Bank’s assistance to Senegal focuses on three points: accelerated growth and wealth creation; human development and shared growth; and rural and urban synergies. Senegal, with support from the World Bank, has made progress towards fiscal consolidation, and has strengthened its regulatory framework, and increased private sector participation in the provision of water and telecommunications services.
