Fifteen years after the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BH), infrastructure and basic services have been restored to prewar levels, while the country and its people have made substantial progress in their overall economic and social development and the country is in the process of integrating into the European Union. World Bank assistance has played a significant role in the successful reconstruction and early reforms in Bosnia and Herzegovina. A 2004 assessment by the Independent Evaluation Group found the Bank’s support for post-conflict reconstruction in BH to be an example of "the Bank at its best". The Bank assistance in BH ranged from rehabilitating basic services to establishing accessible healthcare and education systems, from job creation to financial sector reform.
