Turkmenistan is a landlocked middle-income country with an estimated gross national income per capita of about $3,530 (Atlas method) in 2010. Turkmenistan needs to deepen the economic and social reforms started in 2007 in order to improve prospects for a fundamental shift towards a market economy, an increase in employment and to improve living standards of the population by efficiently utilizing Turkmenistan’s considerable natural resource wealth. Since 2007 the Government and the Bank have reinitiated dialogue in a number of areas.
