While a wave of change has swept through some countries in North Africa, Algeria has faced two main challenges in 2011: rising food prices and high unemployment rates. The Algerian Government has responded by introducing several measures to alleviate the rise of consumer prices. Since 2005, World Bank activities in Algeria have focused on analytical work and Reimbursable Technical Assistance. Looking ahead, the World Bank will support the agricultural and rural development strategy, and assist with improving the investment climate.
